The movie might be a little confusing to understand if you haven’t played any of the games. If I had to recommend a game to play (in order to understand the movie) it’s the very first installment, which is FFVII. You can always read the synopsis of the game if you don’t have enough time to play though. That’s what I did at first, and it cleared up holes that didn’t make sense in the movie. But when I played the games, that’s when I fully understand the story.
